Evaluation of class

I think this class is very good and interesting, and there are many practices and activities in class. The professor replied to me in detail about each of my questions. What I think can be improved is that the aspect of theoretical knowledge couble be increased a little.

Photo Booth

 

I did the photo booth with Elva, and we tried it twice because we fail in the first time. We went to UCSD at first, and we asked many people, they all said “no thanks,” we realized that we had chosen a wrong place, the students here are care about their classes and grades, and we also have a language problem to tell others what we are going to do. What’s more, our project could not attract them. So we decided to go to the Oceanside, we thought people in there are relaxed and are willing to take photos. We also buy some water to attract people, and if they help us with our project, we will give them a bottle of free water.
In that day, we went to the bridge in the Oceanside in the afternoon, and chose the most crowd area, although it made the background not clean, but we just afraid the same situation in the UCSD. We Brought a poster wrote that “School Project, Free Water for Free Photo Booth.” We also bring some props, in case people do not want to show their face. In the beginning, it was as hard as the first time. There was no one to come to us, they just glanced our poster and went away. When the weather became hotter, there were couples with their attendants shoot for wedding photos want our free water and helped us a lot. During the shooting time, there were also some people don’t want the water but just to help with our project and some people who reject us first, but when we chat with them and explain the whole things to them, they finally agree to shoot for us. After 2 hours we finished our project. I change the pohto into black and white and add the Vignetting, because we shoot people backlight and  the background is not clean, it’s not good for focusing the main subject. In all, it’s a great project to enhance our communication skills and photographic skills. I learned that I need to be confident and brave to communicate with others, and before doing one thing I need takes more planning and more consideration.

MOPA Visit

I went to the MOPA exhibition with Elva last Sunday. When I first looked around all the photos, I felt a little depressing, because I’m not so interested in black and white photos. But when I walked slowly and looked every black and white photo carefully, I found it’s so fascinating and impressing. When the photo loses its color, it weakens the mood of the photo, leaving us unconfused with the color, thus making the information and content of the image itself more clear and pure. For example, the shoes and the scissors graphics are easier to focus when I first look at these photos. Moreover, there are some street scenes and portraits, though they were shot in the last century but they feel like not out of style.

What’s most attract me is his color photos, the composition, color scheme and the detail is so great. Some of the photos more like paintings. I think the color photo is more difficult to shoot than the black and white photo, because if it the same scene we see in our eye, we will soon feel boring, so it’s important to observe and to find the interesting point to shoot. Just like that photo, the eye look through the keyhole, and the reflection of the keyhole in the eye, it’s very delicate and has a strong visual impact. All of these have a simple and pure background and the color is intensely saturated. I think this is the key of the photography to make the photo feel more advanced.
